Artist Teacher Philosophy of Education.

My teaching philosophy has been formed based on my values, beliefs, and experiences.
I believe in creating an environment where students of any ability can thrive, grow, and find their artistic voices.
Inclusion of all is a key principle in my philosophy to ensure all students can thrive and grow. I want to make sure that each student feels celebrated no matter what their level/ability is. By recognizing strengths over weaknesses, I hope to motivate students and make them feel as appreciated as a student who is talented/gifted.
Encouraging a positive classroom environment is essential for creating a good student/ teacher dynamic. I hope to create a space where students feel safe, respected, and valued. I think it is important that students are not afraid of making mistakes, but to see it as an opportunity for experimentation and having new outcomes.
I want students to feel as though they are immersed in the world of art, in doing so, I think it is important to take the lessons outside of the classroom, when possible, whether that be gallery trips or guest speakers. By looking at different styles, techniques, and cultural influences students will be able to see the world from an artistic perspective.
Seeing myself as an artist-teacher and not just a “Teacher” is an important aspect of my teaching philosophy. I hope to continue my own practice. Engaging in my own practice will allow me to be open and explore within my own work, which I can then bring into the classroom.

In conclusion, my focus is to ensure every student feels supported and valued. Engaging in art as a subject can help young people think creatively and critically. I want students to realize that they do not need to perfectly depict how something looks to be an artist, but it’s how they think and see the world that matters.
